Researchers at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio say nearly 2,000 kids six and under visit emergency rooms each year in the U.S. from injuries resulting from falling through or climbing on an improperly placed baby gate.

Cowles: "There are gates that come with hardware that you install into the walls– the only kind that's really recommended for top of the stair use."

Nancy Cowles, Executive Director of Kids in Danger, says pressure-mounted baby gates are only good for bottom of the stair use or for separation of rooms. Researchers say most injuries aren't serious, but some are. And that parents should know the difference between the right and wrong baby gates to use.
