And that its last-known position was over Ukraine. It's a Boeing 777.

An adviser to Ukraine's Interior Minister says 295 people were on board. With Russia's Interfax news agency quoting an aviation source as saying the plane was shot down by a ground-to-air missile. Interfax also quoting a Ukrainian government source suggesting that missile was fired by pro-Russian separatists.

This – in the volatile region of Donetsk — the heart of the ongoing unrest in Ukraine.
