The snacks are believed to date back to sometime between 1700 and 1800.

They were unearthed during a dig on the banks of the River Danube in Regensburg, Germany at the site of an old bakery.

Archaeologists believe they'd simply been thrown out because they were burnt.

But it's that crispiness that allowed them to survive so long.

The main thing experts are taking away from the discovery-is that it seems pretzels 300 years ago…were the same size as the ones we still eat today.

The fragments are now on display in a local museum.
