As if Zika, filthy water and civil unrest weren't enough, on Sunday the Rio Olympics faced yet another hurdle in the form of strong, gale-force winds.

The winds wreaked havoc with scheduled events, delaying tennis and kayaking events and even forcing the outright cancellation of the rowing competition.

As powerful gusts swept across the Brazilian city on the second full day of competition, spectators were forced to run for cover from flying debris, as winds ripped a large banner off the aquatics center and forced closures of souvenir shops at the Olympic park.
