Chinese officials say measures have been stepped up to prevent imported cases of the novel coronavirus.

Liu Haitao with the National Immigration Administration says China faces a high risk of imported cases as it has a 22,000-km of land border with 91 entry points.

"We will crack down on illegal immigration and promptly repatriate detained illegal immigrants in accordance with the law to ensure security and stability of the border areas."

He adds that border control measures have r?e???sulted in a sharp decrease in the daily number of border crossings.

The Civil Aviation Administration says the country's measures to curb imported cases via international flights have also proven effective.

As part of efforts to cut the virus risk in the capital, the country decided in late March to redirect all international flights to airports outside Beijing in 12 other designated cities.

China has released a detailed timeline of its response to the novel coronavirus.

The timeline records major events from late December to March.

It says China released timely information, shared experiences, and advanced international exchanges and cooperation.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been moved to intensive care in hospital after his coronavirus symptoms worsened.

Downing Street says Prime Minister Boris Johnson was taken to intensive care on Monday night after his symptoms worsened.

A Downing Street spokesman says British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab will be deputized to act in Johnson's place.

"Well, the government's business will continue. And the prime minister is in safe hands with a brilliant team at St Thomas' Hospital. And the focus of the government will continue to be on making sure the prime minister's direction, all the plans for making sure that we can defeat coronavirus and pull the country through this challenge will be taken forward."

55-year-old Johnson was admitted to St. Thomas' Hospital in London with "persistent symptoms" on Sunday night, 10 days after testing positive for coronavirus.

The spokesman says the prime minister was moved on the advice of his medical team and is receiving "excellent care."

According to Johns Hopkins University, the number of COVID-19 cases in the United States topped 350,000 as of yesterday, with over 10,000 deaths.

New York remains the most impacted state, recording more than 130,000 cases and 4,700 fatalities.

Governor Andrew Cuomo says the time of social distancing will be extended.

There are eight other states with over 10,000 cases each, including New Jersey, Michigan and California.

French health authorities reported 833 more coronavirus deaths on Monday, bringing the total to nearly 9,000.

The infections, both confirmed in hospitals and "confirmed or possible" cases from nursing homes, jumped to over 98,000.

The country's health minister announced a vast screening operation targeting elderly people in order to curb the number of deaths among the most vulnerable.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed to coordinate efforts to curb the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

Netanyahu says Israel is short on testing kits and respirators.

He adds that they also agreed to enable movement between Russia and Israel so that citizens of the two countries will be able to return home.

Saudi Arabia announced on Monday a 24-hour curfew in cities and governorates as part of precautionary measures against the coronavirus.

Riyadh is among the cities affected.

People will be allowed to leave their homes only for essential needs like food and health care within the neighborhood area from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the 24-hour curfew.

Those working in crucial jobs in the public and private sectors are excluded from the curfew.

Swiss International Air Lines says that over 35 million personal protective items will be imported from China to help Switzerland contain the COVID-19 outbreak.

As of Monday, the first two flights filled with "urgently needed" protective materials from China have arrived in Zurich and Geneva.

The medical equipment will be delivered to a number of local hospitals.

Figures from the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health shows that as of Monday, there have been over 21-thousand COVID-19 cases in Switzerland.
