Three Japanese tourists have been found safe and well in the Northern Territory after their car was swept away by floodwaters. The vehicle became trapped in the flooded Hugh Creek near Alice Springs. The occupants, a woman and two men, have only minor injuries. NT police are also looking for a West Australian family of six which was due to arrive in Kintore on Christmas Day.

Authorities in New South Wales have today found the body of a man who went missing while swimming in southern Sydney. The 25-year-old disappeared in the Nepean river near Greendale yesterday. The man's death brings the number of drownings in New South Wales over the holiday period to five.

There are fears for people stranded in remote areas of the Philippines after typhoon Nock-Ten pounded the region. Six people have died and thousands of homes have been destroyed. The typhoon has now moved into the South China Sea.
