In a more robust move Bill Shorten moved to suspend standing orders in parliament to try to introduce a bill to address the Fair Work Commission's decision. The Commission concedes the decision to reduce Sunday penalty rates will cause hardship for some workers.

Police have arrested a 52 year old man in relation to a fire that killed three people in Melbourne's west. The bodies of three people believed to have been squatting in the former factory were discovered by firefighters. The man is being questioned by detectives from the Arson and Explosives Squad.

There are calls for the US attorney general to resign after it emerged he had two undisclosed encounters with the Russian ambassador during Donald Trump's election campaign. The attorney general oversees the FBI which is currently investigating alleged Russian interference in the election.
