The federal government is taking more steps to keep gas prices down announcing it will restrict gas exports to counter domestic shortages. From January next year the government will be able to restrict exports if there's a shortage of gas in Australia. The prime minister says he anticipates it will have an immediate impact on the wholesale price of gas.

Hundreds of Dick Smith shareholders have launched a class action. They are alleging deception over the financial state of the company before it collapsed last year. Lawyers for the shareholders alleges the company knew it was having financial problems before it went into liquidation and should have told the market.

One person has died and several others were injured in a collision between a mini-bus and a taxi in northern Victoria. Police say twelve adults were on the mini-bus a taxi crashed into it at an intersection. A female passenger died at the scene while fourteen others were taken to hospital.

And the AFL has agreed to a new one-point-eight-billion dollar pay rise for players over the next six years. The majority of players will receive an immediate twenty per cent pay rise followed by increases of between one and two percent in each of the remaining five years.
