Federal police say they've dealt a "huge blow" to two major international drug syndicates they allege have links to the family of Kings Cross identity John Ibrahim. Nearly 600 officers were involved in raids in Sydney with 17 people arrested across three countries.

The prime minister says he'll vote yes if a postal plebiscite on same sex marriage goes ahead. The government's vowed to hold the voluntary postal vote if a bill for a mandatory plebiscite is blocked again by the senate. The postal vote would cost up to 122 million dollars and ballots would be issued in September ahead of a count in November.

And ultra marathon swimmer Chloe Mccardel will be the first person to attempt a non-stop quadruple crossing of the English Channel. Ms Mccardel is one of only four people to complete a triple crossing of the channel from England to northern France now she plans to swim the distance four times which will take up to 55 hours of non-stop swimming.
