There are three tiers: signature deals, cash deals and merch deals. Here's a breakdown of each type of deal:

According to ESPN sneaker expert Nick DePaula, signature deals typically pay players a base salary

between $5 million and $15 million per year (depending on the player) plus bonuses from a wide variety of incentives.

These players typically get a five-percent royalty on all of their footwear and apparel sales (although the percentage is negotiable).

There are roughly 70-to-100 players around the NBA who are on a cash deal.

These players canmake anywhere from $200,000to $300,000 per year on the low end and $2 million-to-$3million per year on the high end, per DePaula.
