According to a report by Reuters, China's Tianqi Lithium has nearly completed a deal to purchase a 24 percent stake in Chile's Sociedad Quimica Y Minera, one of the world's biggest lithium producers, for approximately 4.3 billion-dollars.

Tianqi, based out of Chengdu, China, which is building the world's biggest lithium processor in Western Australia, is set to sign a deal to acquire the stake in SQM from Canadian fertilizer company Nutrien Ltd.

Reuters reports that the deal is moving forward despite Chilean government opposition to the deal.
