Tropical Storm Beta made landfall near Port O'Connor, on the Texas coast Monday night. The National Hurricane Center says it had maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour. It flooded streets in Houston.

Authorities northeast of of Los Angeles say a fierce wildfire is threatening more than one thousand homes. Governor Gavin Newsom says about 19,000 firefighters are battling more than two dozen major blazes around California.
