Iran's Revolutionary Guard is claiming to have seized a British-flagged oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. The British foreign office says it is urgently looking into the reports. It comes a day after the United States says it shot down an Iranian drone in the area. Tehran had previously threatened to seize a British vessel in retaliation for the detention of an Iranian tanker, off Gibraltar earlier this month.

Two Australian detectives have been deployed to the country to assist with the investigation. The department of foreign affairs and trade is assisting the Australian man's family.
