The Japanese Prime Minister says he is planning to declare another state of emergency for Tokyo and three surrounding prefectures to fight a new coronavirus outbreak.

The Japanese government declared a state of emergency over COVID-19 last April.

Calls for a new state of emergency have mounted after a recent spike in cases in Tokyo and its surrounding areas.

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga reiterated his government's request for some businesses to close early, suggesting the rollout of vaccinations could start as soon as February.

It's been confirmed that one hundred people were killed on Saturday in attacks on two villages in western Niger.

Officials have yet to identify who was responsible for the killings.

The country has suffered repeated attacks by Islamist militants linked to al Qaeda and Islamic State near its borders with Mali and Burkina Faso.

It has also seen tit-for-tat killings between rival ethnic communities that have been stoked by the jihadist violence and competition for scarce resources.

The China Securities Regulatory Commission says it firmly supports the country's three big telecom companies in protecting their rights and interests under the law.

The CSRC commented in response to the New York Stock Exchange announcement that it will de-list companies said to be linked to the Chinese military — including China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom Hong Kong.

The U.S. president issued an executive order compelling the stock exchange to take action.

The Chinese regulator says the U.S. move "completely ignores the actual situation and severely undermines normal market rules and order."

It also warns that the suppression of foreign companies listed in the United States will damage the global position of the U.S. capital market.

China's Commerce Ministry says it will take necessary measures to protect the interests of Chinese enterprises.

More than 73 thousand doses of coronavirus vaccine have been given out in Beijing with no adverse reactions reported.

The Chinese capital has launched a city-wide vaccination program with nine groups such as port workers, transport staff, and medical employees first in line.

The doses are being given out at more than 200 locations in the capital.

Emergency vaccination for the nine priority groups are expected to be completed ahead of Spring Festival, which falls on Feb. 12.

Vaccinations for other groups will be completed afterwards.

Samples taken from auto parts packaging in several Chinese cities have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The reports come after an employee with an auto parts company in Beijing was diagnosed with COVID-19 late last month.

So far, Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Inner Mongolia have also reported positive results for the virus on auto parts packaging.

Indonesia is distributing a COVID-19 vaccine developed by China's Sinovac across its 34 provinces.

Officials say preparations have been completed to ensure that the temperature of the entire cold chain transport process is maintained at between two and eight degrees Celsius.

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for an attack that killed 11 miners from Pakistan's minority Shi'ite Hazaras in Baluchistan province.

The attack took place early on Sunday morning, killing the miners who were in a shared room near the coal mine where they worked.

Hazaras have been frequently targeted by Taliban and Islamic State militants and other Sunni militant groups in both Pakistan and Afghanistan.
