Chinese authorities have said WHO experts tasked with investigating the origins of the novel coronavirus will fly to Wuhan on Thursday from Singapore.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian revealed this at a daily briefing.

The National Health Commission has announced WHO experts will come to China on January 14 to conduct joint research with Chinese scientists on the origin-tracing of the novel coronavirus, the third such visit since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

North China's Hebei Province reported 40 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 26 asymptomatic cases on Monday.

39 of the local cases were discovered in the provincial capital Shijiazhuang.

Two were previously asymptomatic.

305 locally transmitted cases remain in hospitals in Hebei as of Monday.

The U.S. government has said new tariffs on aircraft parts and other products from France and Germany will take effect today.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a notice that it will start collecting additional 15-percent duties on certain parts of large civil aircraft from France and Germany, and 25-percent duties on other products from the two countries.

The notice came after the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative announced last month that it will modify tariffs on certain products imported from the EU in a long-time dispute over aircraft subsidies.

Washington started to impose additional tariffs on a wide range of European products worth 7.5 billion U.S. dollars in October 2019, following a WTO ruling on subsidies to the EU aircraft Airbus.

Following a similar WTO decision on subsidies to the U.S. aircraft manufacturer Boeing, the EU slapped additional tariffs on U.S. products worth 4 billion dollars in November 2020.
