Britain says it will ban arrivals from South American countries and Portugal due to concerns over a new variant of the coronavirus.

New York state Attorney General Letitia James has sued the mayor of New York City and the city's police leadership over alleged police brutality during racial justice protests.

The lawsuit comes after an investigation into the conduct of the police during the protests that were sparked by the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

"What we found was an egregious abuse of police power, rampant excessive use of force and leadership, unable and unwilling to stop it."

The federal lawsuit alleges New York City police repeatedly and without justification used batons and other physical force against protesters.

Many of the protesters were left with injuries that included broken bones and concussions.
