A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson says maintaining communications at various levels between China and the United States will facilitate mutual understanding and the development of bilateral ties.

Spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the remarks at a daily press briefing, after U.S. President Joe Biden said recently that the United States doesn't wish to see conflict with China.

Wang says China is committed to developing a China-U.S. relationship that features no conflict, no confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation.

He adds that China will continue to resolutely safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests.

The northern Chinese city of Shijiazhuang, hard-hit by the recent COVID-19 resurgence, on Monday resumed the city's passenger train service as the epidemic situation improves.

The city announced that it will start to resume highway services and keep the current measures on passenger flights as well as inter-provincial and inter-city coach services.

The city tightened travel controls to curb the spread of the virus early last month by taking measures including suspending public transport, passenger flights, trains and long-distance coach services as well as restricting highway traffic.

Public transportation services in the city started resumption late last month.

Over 810,000 health workers in Indonesia have received the first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by China's biopharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech as of Monday.

167,000 healthcare workers have been given the second shot.

The Indonesian health ministry plans to vaccinate 1.5 million health workers until the end of February before moving to other priority groups.

The country's Food and Drug Control Agency says it has approved the emergency use in Indonesia of the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine for people aged 60 and above.

Previously, the agency only allowed the Sinovac vaccine for use for people aged from 18 to 59.

Peru on Sunday received the first batch of vaccines from Chinese pharmaceutical firm Sinopharm as the South American country is preparing for mass vaccination campaigns against COVID-19.

Peruvian President Francisco Sagasti welcomed the vaccines at the Jorge Chavez International Airport.

Peru has reported over 1.1 million COVID-19 cases with more than 42,000 deaths.

South Africa is putting the roll-out of the AstraZeneca vaccine on hold after a study showed that it was less effective against a new coronavirus variant found in the country.

South Africa's Health Minister said the process is being suspended temporarily until more "clinically efficacy information" of the vaccine against the new variant becomes available.

The death toll in Sunday's glacier burst in north India has risen to 14, even as the number of missing persons swelled to over 200.

The natural disaster hit the country's northern hilly state of Uttarakhand on Sunday morning, severely damaging two hydro power projects.

The rescue work is focused on a 1,800-meter long tunnel where around 35 to 40 people, mostly power project labourers, are feared trapped.

The tunnel is said to be filled with slush and debris.

The final part of a railway that extends over 3,400 km from northwest China to the country's east coast has been completed.

The high-speed railway links Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region with the coastal city of Lianyungang in Jiangsu Province.

One section of the rail link from Xuzhou City to Lianyungang was put into operation Monday.

China's total railway mileage reached over 146,000 kilometers by the end of last year, with 37,900 kilometers of high-speed rail.
