Eight people have been rescued and 21 remaintrapped after a coalmine was flooded in XinjiangUygur Autonomous Region on Saturday afternoon.

Authorities say the workers are trapped around1,200 meters underground, adding that theunderground environment is very complex anddrainage is the foremost concern at present.

The flooding occurred when the coal mine was undergoing a technological upgrade, with 29 miners working underground at the time.

Rescuers say that experts from the Ministry of Emergency Management are guiding rescueefforts.

"We are still focusing on installing pipes down into the mine, and continuing to pump water outof the mine. All our work is guided and planned by professionals."

Rescuers have also tried to contact the trapped miners.

China has administered nearly 165 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines as of Saturday.

People 18-and-over make up the majority of the vaccine receivers.

Wu Zunyou is the chief epidemiologist with the Chinese Center for Disease Control andPrevention.

He says the public should still continue to maintain social distancing and follow preventionmeasures, especially during the upcoming May Day holiday.

"We all would like to go out to enjoy the beauty of spring during the upcoming Labor Dayholiday. But at the same time, we should not let our guard down about epidemiccontainment. Specifically, we should all avoid organizing or participating in mass gatheringsand large meals during the holiday. Also, we should all observe the routinized anti-epidemicmeasures during our trips, such as wearing masks, keeping social distance, and washinghands. These measures must be maintained."

Meanwhile, health officials also encourage more people to get vaccinated against COVID-19 ona voluntary basis.

The Philippines yesterday received the second batch of Sinovac vaccine purchased from China.

The government aims to inoculate up to 70 million people this year to achieve herdimmunity, starting with health care workers and the elderly.

With the arrival on Feb. 28 of the first batch of the vaccine donated by China, the Philippineskicked off its vaccination campaign on March 1.

Somalia yesterday received 200 thousand doses of Sinopharm vaccine donated by China.

The ministry of health says it's giving priority to frontline health workers, essential servicesproviders, and the elderly.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has kicked off a two-day visit to Israel, with a meetingwith Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz.

Austin reiterated America's commitment to protecting Israel's security in a joint statementwith Gantz.

The visit comes amid indirect US talks on the renewal of the 2015 nuclear agreementbetween Iran and countries party to the deal.

Gantz says Israel will work closely with the United States to ensure that any new agreementwith Iran will secure the vital interests of the world and prevent a dangerous arms race in theregion.

NASA has chosen to reschedule its Ingenuity Mars Helicopter's first experimental flight on theRed Planet to no earlier than April 14.

The flight was originally scheduled for yesterday.

During a high-speed spin test of the rotors on Friday, the command sequence controlling thetest ended early due to a "watchdog" timer expiration.

Ingenuity arrived on Mars on Feb. 18, attached to the belly of NASA's Perseverance rover.

The helicopter has a planned test flight duration of up to 30 Martian days.

有关部门表示，工人被困在地下1200米左右，地下环境非常复杂，目前重点是排水。

透水事故发生时，煤矿正在进行技术升级，当时有29名矿工在地下工作。

救援人员表示，应急管理部的专家正在指导救援工作。

“我们目前仍在集中精力在井下安装管道，继续从矿井中排水。我们所有的（搜救）工作都是由专业人士指导计划的。”

救援人员还尝试联系被困人员。

截至周六，中国已接种近1.65亿剂新冠肺炎疫苗。

年龄在18岁以上的人群是接种疫苗的主要群体。

吴尊友是中国疾病预防控制中心的首席流行病学专家。

他表示，公众仍应继续保持社交距离，遵循防疫措施，特别是在即将到来的五一假期。

“我们都想在即将到来的劳动节假期里，出去走一走，享受春天的美丽。但同时一定要时刻牢记，疫情防控还是不能放松。特别是在假日期间，不要组织、参与大规模聚会、聚餐等聚集性活动。在旅行途中的话，还是要常记常态化防控个人措施的落实，戴口罩，保持社交距离，勤洗手、常通风，这些措施一定要坚持。”

与此同时，卫生官员还鼓励更多的人自愿接种新冠肺炎疫苗。

昨日，菲律宾收到了从中国购买的第二批科兴疫苗。

为实现群体免疫，菲律宾政府的目标是今年为7000多万人接种疫苗，首先从医护人员和老年人开始。

2月28日中国捐赠的第一批疫苗运抵菲律宾，菲律宾于3月1日启动了疫苗接种活动。

索马里昨天收到了中国捐赠的20万剂国药集团疫苗。

该国卫生部表示，将优先为一线卫生工作者、基层服务工作者和老年人接种。

美国国防部长劳埃德·奥斯汀开始了对以色列为期两天的访问，并与以色列国防部长本尼·甘茨举行了会议。

2月18日，“机智号”搭载在美国国家航空航天局“毅力号”火星车的腹部登陆火星。

直升机计划试飞时间长达30个火星日。
