"If my wife wears a really ugly-looking dress and she asks me how does she look, what should I say?"

That's easy. (laughing) Tell her the truth.

Tell her, "You're wearing an ugly-looking dress, and I don't like it. Change."

You should probably be honest to your wife. I mean, you kinda married her.

你也许应该和你妻子说实话。因为，你已经和她结婚了。

Well, I wouldn't recommend that you say, "Why, that's super-ugly." I would say to her, "That's not the most flattering thing I've seen you wear."

嗯，我不会建议你说，“为什么穿这件，真是太丑了。”我建议你对她说，“这并不是我见你穿过的最漂亮的衣服。”

If it really looks really bad, just find something you like about it and just be supportive of her.

Hint that you don't like it as much as other stuff, but don't flat-out say, "It's really ugly."

Put out something that you'd like to see her in and say, "Oh, honey, come on. Would you wear this for me? I really like this." But do it before she gets into the ugly dress.
