The melting 'Third Pole'

Thursday marks the 52nd Earth Day. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, which is also called the world's "Third Pole," has been warming at a faster pace than the rest of the world. The warmer climate has made the large amount of ice and snow on the plateau melt. Experts warn that glacial runoff could bring long-term impacts for water and land resources, since the "Third Pole" is near one of the most populated areas in the world. Experts say the change in its local climate could also influence the global climate on a wider scale.
