Temple Fairs became especially popular during the Qing Dynasty.

庙会在清朝尤其盛行

In Beijing, there are four cosmological temples which occupy the four points of the compass.

北京有四大祭祀坛庙，分别位于紫禁城的四个方向

We have the Sun in the East, Heaven in the south, the Moon in the West,

东边有日坛，南边有天坛，西边是月坛

and here, we have the Temple of Earth in the North.

这里是北边，是地坛

At the Temple of Earth, every New Year the emperor would come to worship the God of Earth.

每年的新年一到，皇帝准备进行祭天仪式了

Nowadays, people gathered to watch a re-enactment of this ancient ritual.

如今，人们可以聚集来观看这个古代仪式的昨日重现

Where is the Emperor, Si? There he is.

皇帝在哪呀老塞？这儿呢　　　　

Every year the Emperor would leave his palace in the forbidden city

每年皇帝都会离开他在紫禁城里的宫殿

and go and negotiate with the gods for a prosperous and auspicious New Year for the people.

去与诸神商榷来年降福人间使国运昌隆，人民幸福的事宜

It is a real nod to China's imperial past, isn't it? Yes, very much so.

这对古代中国的皇家来说很重要，对吗？嗯，非常重要

The Qing Dynasty was the last great imperial dynasty to rule China, until their fall in 1911.

清朝是中国最后一个由皇权统治的朝代，终结于1911年

In recent years, in the People's Republic of China,

there has been a revival of interest in the imperial past.
