A terrible scream -- a prolonged yell of horror and anguish burst out of the silence of themoor. That frightful cry turned the blood to ice in my veins.

一阵可怕的尖叫声——一阵连绵不断的恐惧与暴怒的喊叫声冲破了沼地上的寂静。那恐怖的喊声使我血管里的血液几乎都为之凝固了。

"Oh, my God!" I gasped. "What is it? What does it mean?"“唉呀， 我的上帝！” 我喘了起来， “这是什么？ 这是什么意思？ ”

Holmes had sprung to his feet, and I saw his dark, athletic outline at the door of the hut, hisshoulders stooping, his head thrust forward, his face peering into the darkness.
