2.Police in California arrested the driver of a charter bus that crashed in Northern California. Authorities believed the driver was driving under the influence.The crash killed eight and injuried dozens as passengers were ejected and crushed by the rolling vehicle.

3.Democrats are resurrecting Republican Presidential candidate John McCain's ties to the Keating Five scandal from two decades ago.It comes after his ticket mate,Sarah Palin, criticised Obama's ties to the founder of the Wheather Underground group which was blamed for several bombings when Obama was a child.

4.The 2008 Nobel Prize in medicine has been awarded to three European scientists for separate discoveries.Two French researchers were cited for their discovery of HIV. A German researcher was honored for finding viruses that cause cervical cancer.
