And escalating crisis in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia, a Georgian official says Russia bombed one of its provinces, then Georgian troop shot down two Russian aircraft. This follows clashes between Georgian troops and separatist forces in Georgia's break-away region of South Ossetia. Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili says the country is under continuous bombardment and the Russian tanks are moving in. Athletes from 204 nations are enjoying the 2008 Olympic opening ceremony in Beijing. Usually, the parade of nations goes in alphabetical order based on the host country's alphabet. But China decided to have them enter based on the number of strokes it takes to write the first character of the country's name in Chinese. Detroit's mayor was released from jail today. But he's now facing new felony charges. Michigan's attorney general has charged Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick with assaulting or obstructing a police officer who was trying to serve a subpoena. He's already charged with perjury, obstruction of justice and misconduct. If convicted of any felony, Mayor Kilpatrick will be removed from office. The democratic mayor has refused calls for his resignation. A Florida man is being held without bail after an alleged assassination threat against democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. According to police and court documents, Raymond Geisel was charged after he told classmates at a bail bondsman training seminar that he would kill Obama if he is elected. Another witness says he also threatened President Bush according to Anass David. Authorities say a search of his vehicle and hotel room turned up a weapon, ammunition and other related items. Obama made several campaign stops in Florida last Friday, the day before federal agents arrested Geisel. Republican senator John McCain is heading on down the campaign trail after taking in the sights and sounds of Iowa. Today his visit included a stop at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines. The Arizona senator also took part in a political forum at the Fairgrounds where he addressed several hot-button issues.
