Hello, from the CNN Center here in Atlanta, I'm Melissa Long. It's Friday, Oct 24. Here's a look at some of the stories happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

Recession fears in Wall Street on a slide this afternoon. The Dows' drop follows similar performances in world markets. Analysts say newly released turning reports and GDP releases were part of this worldwide sell off.

In Iceland where the country once an economic bounty is looking now to borrow up to two billion dollars. The International Monetary Fund, the IMF and Iceland's Prime Minister announced they are nearing a deal today. The deal would include an economic stabilization program in excess up to 2 billion dollars under a new two-year loan. Iceland's stock markets plunged earlier this months and the country nationalized three of the country's largest banks.

The energy market. A major oil production cut by OPEC isn't having a major market impact. Oil prices felt to a new year low today. After OPEC's announcement: it will cut oil up by 1.5 million barrels a day. The origination is looking to stop the oil price slide. Currently oil is less than half of what it was just a few months ago.

A stay of execution. A controversial capital punishment case Troy Davis who is convicted of murdering. A Savannah police officer has been issued a stay of execution by the US 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. The stay is 25 days. Attorneys for Davis are now expected to file a new order with a lower court. They are arguing his executions would be a violation of the 8th Amendment.

More than 50 students of a high school in St. Louis may have been exposed to HIV. It's getting a lot of attention. Today, on CNN.com the story is, the Health Department says someone who was infected told them this information. They won't say who the person is or how the teams may have been exposed. HIV tests are being offered now to the students and one student says many kids may want to transfer out.
