Hello to you, I'm Creshon Saunders at the CNN.com newsroom in Atlanta. Here's a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS. CNN affiliate KGO reports police are close to making an arrest in the Chandra Levy murder case. Media reports say police are planning to arrest Ingmar Guandigue who was currently an inmate in the D.C. prison system. Levy disappeared from her D.C. apartment back in April of 2001, you may remember, her body was found in a park more than a year later. At the time, police questioned Congressman Gary Condit after he told investigators he had an affair with Levy. Condit was never named as a suspect. In Pennsylvania now, police have arrested an 11-year-old boy on murder charges. He's accused of shooting and killing a woman who was 8-month pregnant. Police have offered no motive in the case. The 11-year-old has been jailed on charges of criminal homicide and / criminal homicide of an unborn child. The woman's body was found by her 5-year-old daughter. Federal officials have closed yet another bank, folks. The Silver Falls Bank is the second one in Oregon to fail in a week and the 14th to fail nationwide this year alone. Now customers won't be shut out though. This is good news. Citizens Bank and the FDIC are taking it over. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says she will not emphasize the contentious issue of human rights with China this week instead she's focusing on the issues of climate change, the global economic crisis and security crisis. She's in Asia on her first overseas trip as secretary of state. The L.A. Times quotes Human Rights Watch as saying Clinton's remarks reflect a diplomatic strategy and that the human rights issue has been a dead-end dialogue in the past. All right, remember the Clintons' cat in the White House named Socks. Well the former president was governor of Arkansas when the stray cat was adopted by his daughter Chelsea. Socks has been living with the former president's secretary since the Clintons left Washington back in 2001. Now late last year, Socks began losing some weight, he was also suffering from cancer. Yesterday, the cat who had his very own online fan club was euthanized. Those are the headlines this hour, for more on these stories and other news of the day, CNN is your source online, on TV, even when you're on the go. |
