1. President Barack Obama expressed outrage at the violent crackdown by the Iranian government against protesters of the disputed presidential election. Speaking at a White House news conference, Obama said the US joins the international community in condemning what he called the threats, beatings and imprisonments of the last few days.

2. Metro transit officials in Washington D.C. are confirming an earlier report that nine people were killed in a train collision. Mayor Adrian Fenty said at an earlier news conference that seven people had died and he hoped the death toll would not increase. The accident was the worst in the 33-year history of the Metrorail system.

3. Ed McMahon, whose trademark laugh accompanied Johnny Carson's jokes on the "Tonight Show" for 30 years died early Tuesday. He was 86. His publicist didn't give a cause of death, saying McMahon had a multitude of health problems the last few months.

4. Americans Venus Williams and Andy Roddick won their opening round matches at Wimbledon. Williams is seeking her third straight Wimbledon title. The sixth-seeded Roddick is hoping to win his first.
