1.Sarah Palin no longer the Governor of Alaska. The former Republican vice-presidential candidate stepped down Sunday afternoon, more than a year before the end of her term. She gave no clues about her political future during an official handover ceremony. Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell took over for Palin. 2.Eight people including four young cousins dead after a fiery crash in suburban New York City. State police say the minivan was heading the wrong way when it slammed head on into a SUV on the Taconic Parkway. The minivan rolled down an embankment and burst into flames. A five-year-old boy who survived the collision hospitalized. 3.French President Nicolas Sarkozy's office says the leader has been hospitalized overnight as a precaution. Sarkozy started feeling unwell during a strenuous jog on a hot afternoon. Officials say tests came back normal. 4.Alberto Contador of Spain won the Tour De France for the second time. Lance Amstrong joined him on the podium after finishing third in his comeback to cycling's main event. |
