Good morning, from the CNN center here in Atlanta. I am Melissa Long. It’s a Tuesday, August 4th and here’s a look at some of the stories making news at this hour. Iran is finally confirming that it has arrested three American travelers, three American hikers. Iran’s state-run television says they have been charged with illegal entry for crossing an unmarked border from Iraq into Iran. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is urging Iran to provide more information. Obviously, we are concerned. We want this matter brought to a resolution as soon as possible. And we call on the Iranian government to help us determine the whereabouts of the three missing Americans and return them as quickly as possible. In Thailand, a co-pilot has now been freed after being trapped in the cockpit of a plane that skidded off the runway and crashed into a control tower. The pilot was killed. At least 34 people were injured. The Bangkok Airways flight landed in some stormy weather today. Investigators are expected back at the scene of a chemical leak in Massachusetts this morning. Fumes started seeping from a trash disposal facility in New Bedford on Monday. Almost 120 people were sent to the hospital, two are in critical conditions. Here is what one of the victims had to say. -It smells like gas and ammonia mixed together. Officials believe trash brought to that site caused the leak. It is perhaps the slowest mobile home in our Florida. It's 145-ton house that’s being moved, a couple of feet at a time. It’s more than 60 years old. It’s part of a Delray Beach history so the movers have to be quite careful. The whole trip is more than 100 feet. Those are the headlines for you this hour. Do stay with CNN, CNN. com for more on these stories or other news that develops today. |
