1. Today is Labor Day and President Barack Obama is marking the holiday with an address to organized labor. Obama will speak at the annual AFL-CIO picnic in Cincinnati. The president also is expected to touch on health care reform. 2. Astronauts aboard space shuttle Discovery are getting a day off to mark the holiday. Crew has had a week of virtually nonstop work with three busy spacewalks. The plan is for Discovery to return to Earth on Thursday bringing with a moving van for the trash from the International Space Station. 3. Crews in the San Francisco area are racing to repair a crack discovered in a steel link that holds up the Bay Bridge. California transportation officials say it's going to be quite a challenge to get the problem fixed and have the bridge reopen in time for the Tuesday morning rush. 4. An attorney for San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman says he's confident his client will not be charged in an alleged attack on his reality star girlfriend. Merriman was arrested Sunday and accused of choking MTV star Tila Tequila. Police say deputies determined Tequila had been drinking. |
