A hospital official says at least 84 people were wounded. 2. Thousands of panic South Pacific islanders took no chances this morning, heading for higher ground after three earthquakes triggered a tsunami warning, turns out the quake generated only a small tsunami and the warning was soon lifted. 3. Day won the major baseball playoffs worked out well for the home teams all three one. The Phillies started the day by beating the Rockies. The Yankees followed suit by topping the Twins and the Dodgers capped the night by defeating the Cardinals. The Red Sox start their division series of the Angles tonight. 4. It was a night to real star power at the White House. The president and first lady invited about 150 middle school students to a stargazing party on the South Lawn. Astronauts Sally Ride and Mae Jemisonall all attended the event. It marked the 400th anniversary of Galileo's first telescoping observations of Jupiter. |
