There’s a sad little girl who just stares at the window, waiting to see if her dad will come home, holding back tears as she cries to her mother. He’s gone. I wish I could tell you, my sweet little daughter. To tell you the truth would just break your little heart. Your Dad’s working once again late at the office! He’s gone. Keeps us apart. Life is a game. Keeps us apart. He’s to blame. Ain’t it a shame? Meanwhile he’s lying in the arms of a lady, laughing and joking and drinking red wine. Tells her he loves her and will always stay with her. He’s gone! Oh mama, won’t you tell me where my daddy has gone? Dad’s never here. What on earth has gone wrong? You telling me he’s working late at the office. How many nights do we sit here all alone waiting for him to come back to his family? Oh, mama, he’s gone! Night after night falling for that same old story. Try as we might we still sit here alone. When will we realize what the truth is? A desk is what keeps us apart. Never thought of his sweet little daughter. She cries in her room from the time spent alone. She says it’s a shame and I know what you’re thinking. He’s gone. Back home now his daughter has grown a bit older. No longer she’s waiting for Dad to come home. She looks at her Mom and says “tell me what happened. He’s gone. Keeps us apart. Life is a game. Keeps us apart. He’s to blame. Ain’t it a shame? It’s hard to face up to the facts but must know. I’ll tell you the truth though it might break your heart. Your daddy has found a new L-A-D-Y and he’s gone. He’s gone. |
