1. The mayor of the largest Chilean city near the epicenter of Saturday's quake says food aid is arriving in Concepcion. But the power is still out and water is scarce. Troops are patrolling the city, trying to prevent further looting.

 

2. President Barack Obama is taking aim at the nation's school dropout epidemic. He is suggesting that $900 million be given to states and school districts that agree to make drastic changes in their worst performing schools or even shut those schools down.

 

3. Authorities are widening a search for a 17-year-old girl missing in San Diego County. Thirty-year-old registered sex offender John Gardner was booked yesterday for investigation of first-degree murder and rape. Chelsea King was last seen Thursday.

 

4. And an Ohio officer is lucky to be alive after a car slid in slip conditions and hit him. The officer lost consciousness for four minutes and woke at a hospital with multiple fractures. The 22-year-old veteran is expected to pull through.
