She has a punctured sinus, more wounds on the back of her head and more on her leg, but nothing surgery won't fix.

Though she, she sure got off lucky .

Lucky considering Angel came up against one of the fiercest animals in the woods, the golden retriever living up to her breed.

And they're loyal and faithful and certainly this one has shown a lot of courage, doing what she did.

She is an angel, the dog ,obviously knew something was up because she ran towards me just at the right time and the cougar ended up getting her instead.

While the animals fought, the family called police. After the cat was shot, the first person the dog went to was Austin.

She was my best friend, but now she is even greater to me, like she is more than a best friend now.

Dog may be boy's best friend. But as another cougar here BC recently learned, ya don't mess with mom either.

This animal was shot after it attacked David Metzler last week. The seven year old was tobogganing with his sister, when the cougar pounced, biting the boy on the head. His mother scared it off, with an old rag.

I walked up there and slapped the thing in the face with my scrub rag. It just stood there ,looking at me for an instant eye to eye. Someone said, 'Well, how close is eye to eye?' I said, 'Well, too close for comfort anyway.' But then it ..it turned and ran off.

The incidents followed an unusually high number of cougar encounters here last summer,

I know you've  got malice,and

including an attack on this little girl. But conservation officers say sightings are still extremely rare. The two boys are just fortunate that when the cats had them in their sights, their loved ones were also looking over them.
