Elliott Yamin出生在加州的洛杉矶，母亲以前是专业歌手，Yamin十几岁唱卡拉OK时首次发现了自己的声乐天分。虽然他没有受过声乐方面的专业训练，但他在 业余时间在当地的爵士乐队中担任主唱，并开始接触Stevie Wonder、Whitney Houston和Donny Hathaway等人的音乐，这些人对他的乐风影响较大。Yamin在高二辍学后就使用昵称E-Dub在当地的R&B广播电台Foot Locker¹工作。之后他于2006年参加“美国偶像”，并获得该届大赛的季军。这张《Elliott Yamin》是他的首张个人专辑，专辑首周销售量就达到9万，在美国Billboard 200排名第三位。截止到 2007年10月12日，这张专辑已经达到了黄金销量。
