Japan's governor of Okinawa, Takeshi Onaga, is on a visit to the US. Onaga plans to tell the US government directly that Japan opposes the US moving the Futenma airbase into its district.
Onaga has said that the land reclamation permission in the county can be canceled. But, the Japanese government supports the move of the airbase and says that it is the only way to maintain the US-Japan alliance. The Japanese government has said that Japan will do everything it can on the issue even appeal to the courts.
Japanese cabinet chief Yoshihide Suga said that even if the land reclamation permission is cancelled, Japan will still push the project. In addition,Yoshihide Suga has denied that Takeshi Onaga's visit to the US would affect the movement of the Futenma airbase.
