Let's practice tense and lax vowels² in context. The intonation³ is marked for you. When in doubt, try to leave out the lax vowel rather than run the risk of overpronouncing it: l'p in place of lip, so it doesn't sound like leap. Repeat:

In the time you have taken to reach this pointin the program, you will have made a lot of decisions about your own individual speech style. Pronunciation of reduced sounds is more subjective and depends on how quickly you speak, how you prefer to express yourself, the range of your intonation, how much you want to reduce certain vowels, and so on.

1 vowel   

n.元音；元音字母

参考例句：

• A long vowel is a long sound as in the word"shoe ".长元音即如“shoe” 一词中的长音。
• The vowel in words like 'my' and 'thigh' is not very difficult.单词my和thigh中的元音并不难发。

2 vowels   

n.元音，元音字母( vowel的名词复数 )

3 intonation
