The 2,500 kilometer long transmission line built by the State Grid1 Corporation of China is the world's longest Ultra-high Voltage Direct Current grid project.
With a transmission capacity of four million kilowatts2, the line stretches across 80 cities, delivering power from the Belo Monte hydroelectric dam to economic centers in the southeast like Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
Construction work stated in September in 2017 and was finished this month, two months ahead of schedule.
Xiao Bin3 is senior project manager with China's State Grid, attributing the efficiency and high-quality of the construction work to the expertise4 of their technical management team.
"I think their strong project execution capability5 helped us to complete the project ahead of schedule. The ample financial support ensured that the construction work by the contractors6 went smoothly7. Besides, we also have competent management capability; our teams are very experienced and are able to quickly solve difficult problems. The equipment required was always shipped to the construction site in advance, which helped us finish the project on time."
Brazil's hydropower potential ranks third in the world, following Russia and China.
But long distance power transmission has been a problem that plagued the country for a long time.
Brazil's government decided8 in 2013 to use ultra-high voltage transmission technology for the transmission project, as it's able to provide high transmission capacity with relatively9 low loss over long distances.
But the benefits of the project have proved to be more than just a sufficient and stable power supply.
Xiao Bin said that the transmission line project has created 16 thousand jobs for local communities and generated taxes of over 2 billion Brazilian Real.
"The project is the largest ever power project in Brazil, and is of great significance for the country. It will effectively resolve the power shortages in the south of the country. Brazilian engineers also participated in our project. We offered relevant technical training for local engineers."
Jia Yongjian, another manager of the project, said that their sound construction plan and mature techniques guaranteed a high-quality outcome for the project.
"Once it goes into operation, the equipment will constantly vibrate. Our technique enables the equipment to withstand this vibration10 and avoid cracking."
The transmission line is expected to be put into operation in the third quarter of this year.

“能够提前完工首先是因为我们拥有特别强的项目执行能力,从资金上保障设备的供应以及承包商施工的顺利进行;另外我们有很强的管理实力,在施工现场配有足够经历的技术管理团队,能够把现场遇到的困难快速解决;其次就是设备方面,整体设备供应过程非常顺畅,都会适当的提前运抵施工现场,确保能够按期完成。”
巴西的水电潜力位列世界第三,仅次于俄罗斯和中国。
但是长距离电力传输一直是困扰巴西的问题。
2013年,巴西政府决定在输电项目上使用特高压技术,因为这种技术在长距离输电中不仅电力强且电量损耗少。
事实证明,这个项目带来的好处并不仅仅是充足和稳定的电力供应。
肖斌表示,输电项目为当地增加1.6万个就业岗位,为巴西贡献税收超过20亿雷亚尔。
“这个项目是巴西有史以来最大的一个电力项目,而且对巴西的重要性不言而喻,能够有效地解决巴西南部地区电力供应不足的问题。巴西工程师也参与到了我们的项目中,我们也为当地工程师提供了相关的技术培训。”
该项目的另一位经理贾永健表示,详细的施工计划和成熟的技术确保了项目能圆满完成。
“设备在今后的运行过程中会不断的产生震动,应用我们的技术可以承受这种震动,避免开裂。”
该项目计划于2019年第三季度投入运营。
