【简明语法】11.2 一般过去时的用法

1）在确定的过去时间里所发生的动作或存在的状态。
　 时间状语有：yesterday, last week, an hour ago, the other day, in 1982等。
　 Where did¹ you go just now?

2）表示在过去一段时间内，经常性或习惯性的动作。
　 When I was² a child, I often played football in the street.
　 Whenever³ the Browns went during⁴ their visit, they were given⁵ a warm welcome.　　　　　

3）句型：
　 It is time for sb. to do sth　 "到……时间了"　 "该……了"
　 It is time sb. did sth. "时间已迟了"　 "早该……了"
　 It is time for you to go to bed.　 你该睡觉了。
　 It is time you went to bed.　　　你早该睡觉了。
　 would⁶ (had) rather⁷ sb. did sth.　表示'宁愿某人做某事'
　 I'd rather you came⁸ tomorrow.

4) wish, wonder⁹, think, hope¹⁰ 等用过去时，作试探性的询问、请求、建议等。
　I thought¹¹ you might¹² have some. 我以为你想要一些。

比较：
　　一般过去时表示的动作或状态都已成为过去，现已不复存在。
　Christine was an invalid¹³ all her life¹⁴.　
　 (含义：她已不在人间。)
　Christine has been an invalid all her life.　
　 (含义：她现在还活着)
　Mrs. Darby lived in Kentucky for seven years.
　 (含义：达比太太已不再住在肯塔基州。)
　Mrs. Darby has lived in Kentucky for seven years.
　( 含义：现在还住在肯塔基州，有可能指刚离去)
　　
注意： 用过去时表示现在，表示委婉语气。
1）动词want, hope, wonder, think, intend¹⁵ 等。
　　　Did you want anything else?
　　　I wondered¹⁶ if you could¹⁷ help me.
2）情态动词 could, would.
　　　Could you lend¹⁸ me your bike?

1 did   

v.动词do的过去式

参考例句：

• How many goals did you score in the last game?上一场比赛你们进了几个球？
• Why did you choose basketball in the first place?你为何首先选择篮球呢？

2 was   

v.(is,am的过去式)是，在

参考例句：

• He said he was right.他说他是正确的。
• He was cold and hungry.他又冷又饿。

3 whenever   

adv.无论何时；conj.每当，无论何时，随时

参考例句：

• I'll go there whenever I have time.我多会儿有空就去。
• Whenever we meet him we speak to him.每次我们见到他，我们都和他讲话。

4 during   

prep.在…期间，在…时候

参考例句：

• What did you do with yourself during the summer holidays?暑假你是怎样度过的？
• London is full of visitors during May and June.五六月间伦敦挤满了游客。

5 given   

adj.赠予的，沉溺的，特定的，假设的；vbl.give的过去分词

参考例句：

• This was given me as a birthday gift.这是给我的生日礼物。
• He was given every chance to try the job.他得到一切可能的机会去试做这件事。

6 would   

aux.will的过去式；愿，要；常常；大概；将要，会

参考例句：

• Why would you say that?为什么你会这么说？
• Would you please help me?你能帮帮我吗？

7 rather   

adv.宁愿，宁可；相当

参考例句：

• I would rather go out tonight,if you don't mind. 如果你不介意的话，我宁愿今晚出去。
• This book is rather too easy for this boy.这本书对于这个孩子来说太简单。

8 came   

v.动词come的过去式

参考例句：

• I was surprised why he came here so early.他为什么那么早到这里，我很惊奇。
• The doctor came in time to save his life.医生及时来抢救他的生命。

9 wonder   

v.惊奇；惊讶；(对...)感到怀疑

参考例句：

• I wonder why he is late.我想知道他为什么迟到。
• No wonder it's a wonder.怪不得这是一个奇迹。

10 hope   

vt.希望，期望；vi.希望，期待；n.希望，期望

参考例句：

• We hope you can come.我们希望你能来。
• Hope you'll enjoy yourself there.愿您度过愉快的一天。

11 thought   

n.想法，思想，思维，思潮，关心，挂念；v.vbl.think的过去式和过去分词

参考例句：

• It was just a thought.这仅仅是一个想法。
• She thought he had a cold.她认为他感冒了。

12 might   

aux./v.(may的过去式)可能；可以，允许

参考例句：

• It looks as if it might snow.看起来好像要下雪了。
• Might I ask a question?我能问个问题吗？

13 invalid   

n.病人，伤残人；adj.有病的，伤残的；无效的

参考例句：

• He will visit an invalid.他将要去看望一个病人。
• A passport that is out of date is invalid.护照过期是无效的。

14 life   

n.生活；生命

参考例句：

• The doctor came in time to save his life.医生及时来抢救他的生命。
• At last he knew the meaning of life.终于，他知道了生命的意义。

15 intend   

vt.想要，打算；打算使…为；意指，意思是

参考例句：

• How long do you intend to stay with the firm?你准备在公司干多久？
• He did not intend paying the bill.他不打算付账。

16 wondered   

vt.对…感到好奇（wonder的过去式与过去分词形式）

参考例句：

• I wondered uneasily if anything had happened to the children. 我忐忑不安地揣测孩子们是不是出了什么事。 来自《简明英汉词典》
• Mother wondered if she could last out another operation. 母亲怀疑自己是否经得起再动一次手术。 来自《简明英汉词典》

17 could   

v.能，可能(can的过去式)；aux.v.(can的过去式)能；可以

参考例句：

• Could I open the window?我可以打开窗子吗？
• I could wait ten minutes.我可以等十分钟。

18 lend   

v.把…借给；借给

参考例句：

• Would you lend me some money?能借我一些钱吗？
• They had no reading books to lend.他们没有阅读用书可以出借。
