Grain Prices Start to Level Off in China
The grain price hikes that have occurred in China in recent months are gradually winding1 down(很有用的词汇,表示逐渐慢慢地降下来,写线段图的时候可以用), according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).
Wheat prices, which spearheaded the price climb last November, have dropped (看吧!drop也不见得就是所谓的junk word哦!) for the third consecutive2 week in Henan, Shandong and Hebei provinces, major grain production bases. (这个句型太经典了,仔细一看,这不就是本人上课反复强调的......非限制性定语从句吗?)The average price of rice, wheat and corn stood at (维持在......,相当于remain)1,506 yuan (188.25 U.S. dollars) per ton during Jan. 18-24, equivalent to (=equal to)the previous week, statistics from the NDRC showed.
Industry analysts3 have attributed the decline (刚才用了drop这里就用decline了,原来新闻稿也要求variety啊!) to a bumper4 harvest as well as government's moves to secure the market and curb5 grain prices.
However, as a net soybean importer, the prices will not drop in the near future as the international soybean price remains6 at a high level, analysts said.
Last year, grain prices went up by 2.7 percent on 2005, with the growth rate 1.3 percent higher than that of 2005. (with引导的从句,上课也讲过哦!)To stabilize7 soaring (嘿嘿,这个词熟悉吧?) grain prices, the Chinese government has continuously released its wheat and rice stockpiles. Through the latest auctions8, China released 392,900 tons of wheat and 145,100 tons of rice onto the market.
