   Sam,Jesse,Maurice,Mark,Ellen,Nico,Sandra

  Summary:
It's a clip of a group of high school students' daily life. We exaggeratedly present their attitudes toward their own social life and their academic life, as well. Mark and Sam, with their own followers1, are two different types of students with an opposite points of values, which is the key reason for the constant conflicts going on in the play.
In their conversation, we'll see what most high school students really care about and what they do want to learn in the class. Honestly. Therefore, vanity, arrogance2, indifference3 and even not knowing what respect is are everywhere in this play. We definitely don't want to preach, but tell the truth because what we will see, the very same scenario4, is also played out every day in our adulthood5.
Act 1:10 minutes before their monthly tests in the classroom.
Jesse: Here comes Mr. number one.
Sam: (look at the watch) Look at the time!
Ellen: (flatteringly) Good morning, Mark. (Mark ignores her)
Sandra: Why, why are you so late? Did you stay up late last night? See, there's only ten minutes away until the tests.
Mark: Hey, relax and stop nagging6 me! You know, curiosity killed the cats! Well, I did study some last night but I don't think I'm gonna PASS this time. (Everyone says, "Come on!") TRUE! There's just too much to study!
Maurice: Right, tell us about it!
Sandra: Don't worry; you'll ace7 it, with no problem, as usual.
Ellen: Right! Thanks for reminding HIM.
Mark: Anyway, anyway, I saw a really fantastic movie on HBO last night. It was awesome8!
  Nico: Movie? Which one?
Ellen: Wow, you're lucky; you've got cable.
Nico: (To Ellen) Excuse me, do you mind?
Mark: Anyway, it was a scary movie...
Maurice: Hey! Is there anyone studying here?
Mark: About a scientist who invented a monster.....
Maurice: Hello! Someone needs to study here, OK?
Sam: (sigh)You're lucky you were able to watch a great movie instead of having to study, like us.
(Mark stops talking and looking at Sam)
  Nico: Then what, Mark?
Ellen: Shhhh, HE is the APPLE of our teacher's eye, so he can do everything he wants.
Sam: (Sarcastically) He is an APPLE, alright. A ROTTEN one? (Mark stops talking again and is about to talk back.)
Sandra: Go on, go on' Mark.
Jesse: Wow, Sam' you've got a new watch?
Sam: Yep 1 Check it out!
Jesse: (lean over) It must've been very expensive, huh?
Ellen: (take over the watch) Wow, what a fancy watch! It looks GOOD on me! (Then, Ellen enjoys herself with the watch and half listened to the story.)
Jesse: (with an envy tone) That's a G-shock, right? I WISH I had one just like that!
(her voice is getting softer) but my mom won't allow me....
  Sam: What?
(Class bell rings and the students are ready for the monthly test.)
(Lights out with the steps of the teacher getting in and out.)
Act 2: Friday, Dec.23, one day before the Christmas Party.
They don't have to wear uniforms today!
Nico: (running back into the classroom with the newest grade list) Congratulations, Mark. You've got the number one again!
Sandra: What? You've got the number one again? (with an envy tone) You must be a genius!
Nico: Right, you must have a photographic memory or something.
Ellen: Unlike YOU, ladies. Mark is a much better student than you. Maurice: That's not very nice, Ellen. (To Sandra) Don't worry about it, just study harder next time, you'll do much better next time.
Mark: (cut from study) Anyway, I can't believe it myself, either. God! I'm incredible. I didn't study at all, you know. Anyway....
Sam: Anyway, genius. What are we going to wear for tomorrow's party? Give us some advice since you're so smart?
  Jesse: Yeah!
Mark: Well, I... don't know yet... .but it shouldn't be too hard to figure it out.
Ellen: Nonesense, Mark! What does your brain have to do with choosing an outfit9? OR, maybe you could give us some tips, (To Mark) right, Mark?
Jesse: I can see your brain isn't working well with your choosing outfit. HA! Ellen: You...
Jesse: Look! Look at that girl! Oh' I wish I had this kind of lips, and dress and shoes and flgure... OH!
Sam: (push Jesse) Right! You wish you had them all, right, Cinderella! Jesse: (feel innocent) Why did you say that?
Ellen: Don't you say that, Sam. She is just "dreaming" and "fantasizing"... Ha! Ha! Oops, sorry, a person of integrity, like myseW, shouldn't say things like that! I'm sorry.
Nico: Since when you started to be concerned with "Integrity".
Maurice: Guy, guy, you know what you're doing now? A party is just a party! No big deal, OK? What we are supposed to wear shouldn't be a problem!
Sandra: Right! We probably should all wear uniforms...
Ellen: Hello, anybody home? If you don't dress well, you could end up looking like a big joke.
Sam and Jesse are thinking aloud about the party
Sam: Look at these Levis 501! They're so cool. I would look killer10 if I wore them.
Jesse: How dare they laugh at me! Look at these fancy clothes. One, just one, I would die for any piece on me! Oh' look at those Levis!
Sam: But, how can I get the money? I'm running out of my allowance for this month. What excuse could I use to get more money from Dad?
Jesse: How can I possibly have those kinds of clothes? I know Sam will dress like a prince tomorrow and I, I will be the princess. Somehow, someway, I'll ask Mom to get one for me no matter what!
Sam: Forget it! I'm just gonna go ahead and do it. Ijust hope Jesse, the Cinderella, wouldn't think of dressing11 match me. What the heck! Money! (money) Fashion!
  (fashion!)
Jesse: Sam, do you mind teaching me how to dress for tomorrow?
Sam: Well, ..OK. What do you got?
Ellen: (To Mark) Should we do some shopping tonight, Mark?
  Sandra: Yeah, let's go shopping!
Ellen: Although I don't have much money with me...
  Sandra: I don't, either.
  Mark: What the heck!
(Mark walks toward the back of the classroom but accidentally steps on Sam's sneaker)
Sam: Damn it, Mark. Look what have you done?
Mark: (with careless tone) Sorry, I didn't mean it.
  Sam: You sorry?
Nico: Sam. Relax. Mark's already said sorry there's nothing to be angry with.
  Sam: But...
Jesse: (nervously) Sam! There's some on it. I don't think it's gonna come out easily!
Sam: (angrily) You should've been more careftil! You, idiot!
Mark: Idiot? Me? You're the idiot!
Sandra: Sam's not stupid; he's just not as smart as you are!
Sam: Mind your own business! I think you both are idiots! Besides, I'm really ashamed of you wearing that kind of shoes!
Ellen: I think they look OK.
Jesse: Right, 'cause you don't have the taste, whatsoever12.
Ellen: Taste of what, Cinderella! You think you have taste? I don't think so!
  Jesse: You..
Mark: Stop it. I said, "Sorry!" That's it.
Maurice: Everyone, let's not get to stress out, OK?
Sam: Then what am I gonna do with my shoes?
Mark: Figure it our' Brain. At school, we're supposed to study hard. Who cares about the shoes, the hair the clothes...
Sam: Bookworm. Party pooper! School life is about social life. Use YOUR brain. Do you have any friends who are on your side? So what about you being number one all the time? You don't even know what the world is like!
Mark: What do you about the world? Nike? G-shock? Look at your test scores first, then tell me what the 'world" is like.
Jesse: Your history grade has nothing to do with knowing the world well, either.
Ellen: You're speaking for yourself, aren't you!
Nico: Ellen! I can't believe you're such a mean person.
Sam: I know what I like and I like what I know. So what, I know something about fashion stuff Is that a crime?
Mark: Of course not. It just makes you a shallow person! So I spent time studying hard and don't know that fashion garbage. What's wrong with that?
Sandra: I thought you didn't study at all!
Jesse: Ha, now the truth comes out! Everyone knows you study but you just keep denying it. What's your purpose of pretending to make everything seem so effortless? Ellen: You should hear your own words, Copycat!
Maurice: (Sigh) I can't take this anymQre, can you! We, high school students are not supposed toargue things like this. We are not supposed to do or say thing like that! Ironically, everyday in my class, the same scenario is played out again and again. I'm wondering what a high school student should care about or learn from?! Spiritual development results from... I don't know! Maybe the answer is already there in you
  The End
