Jorge Ben, who later changed his name to Jorge Ben Jor, made use of / electric guitars, condemned¹ by the left because of their association with America and foreign influences. But his songs would transform Brazilian music, and have been continually re-recorded until the present day. Jorge Ben had started out playing bossa nova, but his first major hit, Mas Que Nada, mixed samba with maracatu, a rhythm from the northern countryside.
