Samuel al-Sailly didn't just buy rough diamonds, but black market diamonds. Smuggling¹ them to market Antwerp, he avoided taxes and any awkward questions where these stones came from. In 2000, his obsession² took him back to Sierra Leone. He was born and grew up there before his Lebanon family moved away before civil in Gulf³ and west Afgan country(?). Rebels committed or oversaw⁴ horrific atrocities⁵ in Sierra Leone, including the disabulia(?) of pregnant women swabbing diamonds in return for weapons. For the dealers⁶ like Samuel Sailly, it is an opportunity to make a fortune from  bloody⁷ diamonds smuggled⁸ back into Western Europe. Despite United Nation's sanctions and the fact that illegal trade supported rebels were tortured, raped⁹ and murdered, the trade of bloody diamonds thrived.  Everyone was doing illegal trade, every single person, because hundred percent of them worked for gravers(?)  . Traveling directly to Sierra Leone was too dangerous. Backed by a rich Lebanon diamond merchant Azis Nasur, Al-Sailly went to neighbouring Libyria instead. In hotel suite¹⁰, he courted high ranking official and President Charles Taylor's corrupted¹¹ regime. The former leader is now on trial for war crimes. If you don't have the government on your sides, you cannot reach the diamond'. Within days, his efforts paid off with influx¹² of quality rough diamonds. All that I was doing in Libyria is paying and also most of time ignored asking where it is from. The best way is not knowing where it is from.
