Michelle Wright: A Labor1 Department report out today reveals that U. S. employers added a smaller than forecasted 193, 000 new jobs in January. Despite that , Labor Secretary Elaine Chao says this report is strong.
Elaine Chao: Well, I think today's report shows that the fundamentals of our economy are strong. And as president noted2 in his State of the Union address, we are seeing broad-based job growth.
Michelle Wright: And with that job growth Manpower Inc. 's Jeffrey Joerres says we could start to see wages improve.
Jeffrey Joerres: When you see, you know, the food and beverage3 industry add 31, 000 jobs, those would be traditionally not paying as much as, as manufacturing. But at 4. 7% unemployment you're gonna start to see a little bit of wage creep. But I think that will help the, the person on the street looking for a job.
Michelle Wright: Economists4 had forecasted that 240, 000 new jobs would be created in January.

Michelle Wright: Consumers' view of the economy dipped last month. The University of Michigan in a report released only to its subscribers today says its consumer sentiment index was down three tenths of a point from December. Economists had expected an increase.

Michelle Wright: Good news if you're looking for a high-speed Internet at a cheap price. AT&T is slashing5 their introductory broadband service to 12. 99 a month. That price is for a download speeds of up to 1. 5 Mbps. The carrier is also offering a higher speed service for 17. 99 a month which provides download speeds from 1. 5 to 3 megabytes.

Michelle Wright: A new study shows that recent design changes made in SUVs and pick-up trucks have reduced sharply the number of car driver deaths.
Adrian Lund: Car occupants suing collisions with the SUVs that met disagreement were much less likely to die in those collisions. So we saw about an 18 to 21 percent reduction.
Adrian Lund is the president of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Michelle Wright: And first to put United Airlines this week, now a bankruptcy6 judge has accepted a reorganization plan from a lower airlines which will allow them to leave Chapter 11 bankruptcy status .
