Rachel Lee: The home remodeling industry is changing as the population grows older. Many seniors are having their homes remodeled, so they can stay there as they age. Wing Hicks, a certified12 "aging in place" specialist in Sarasota, Florida, says the most common thing he does is widen 32-inch doors.
Wing Hicks: You can’t get a wheelchair through a 32-inch door and if you try to take a walker through there, you are gonna bust13 your knuckles14 on both sides. So the minimum would be 36, comfortably 42. Rachel Lee: Other changes include lever door handles and non-slip surfaces.
