So, today is the day. According to just about everyone, the consensus¹ seems to be that the Federal Reserve will, in a few hours, take its first step towards slowing the economic stimulus² programme by tapering³ the amount of long-term bonds that it's been buying. What we don't yet know is by how much and what effect this will have on global markets, many of which have grown used to a multibillion-dollar infusion⁴ of cash every month.
