But Jane Austen fans are celebrating the fact that a golden turquoise¹ ring once owned by the author may be allowed to stay in the UK. An American singer Kelly Clarkson bought the ring at auction² last year for £150,000, but a temporary export ban imposed by the government has given the Jane Austen House Museum a chance to try to buy the ring themselves. £100,000 given today by an anonymous³ donor⁴ will help them on the way. Former curator of the museum Louise West told me more about the ring.
