Well, when an economy plunges¹ into a downturn, we know you could expect unemployment to rise, businesses to struggle as demand falls and investment to drop. Now normally economists² assume these effects will be reversed as the economy recovers, but it now seems the consequences of periods of economic stress can be with us for many years.

 

译文：

我们知道一旦经济陷入低迷，就会发生失业率递增以及由于需求下降投资骤减而导致各企业垂死挣扎的现象。目前经济学家们通常认为这些现象会在经济扭转时也有所好转，但是现在看来经济受挫时期的消极后果会萦绕我们数年。
