Steven Zohn has already mentioned Graun, twenty years younger than Telemann and perfectly¹ content to plough a fairly straight furrow² through Italian opera, mainly to please his royal patron Frederick the Great. Graun and Telemann occasionally competed in their writing, each bringing their own sensibilities to the same texts.
