模仿文本： Half of us live in one of the world's great urban sprawls¹, the concrete and glass habitats we create for ourselves. Our cities have spread and replaced wildlands, and they roar and blaze with the energy from fossil fuels. They're colossal² and sometimes magnificent. But how substantial are they? Will they stand the test of geological time? 

 

译文： 我们当中有一半的人居住在那些遍布全球的了不起的城市地区，也就是我们用水泥和玻璃为自己建造的居所。我们的城市不断扩展，依靠消耗化石燃料产生的能量制造喧闹之声，发出耀眼之光，取代了荒野。它们庞大无比，有时还很壮观,不过它们有多么坚固结实呢？它们能经受得了地质时期的考验吗？
